a deceptive appearance of stifness (or stoutr.eess); expl. ib. דחיזרא מיא (v. חיזרא II), or מזקפתא q. v.; Tosef. ib. II, 29 משרבטין (v. סרט Pi.). שרבט ch. same. Sabb. 94a נפשייהו דמשרבטי .. בהמה וכ׳ cattle . . which stiffen themselves (when they are carried, and are a real burden), but a live human being &c. טרביב m. (b. h.; Parel of כטw, v. שבטb 1) staff, sceptre, rod. Snh. II, 5 בשרביטו משתמשין ואין and we dare not use his (the king's) sceptre. Arakh. 19a, vv. כפף. Cant. R. to II, 16 וכ׳ שלבם . . שרביטו אין God's rod (of chastise- ment) comes down only upon mmen whose heart is soft like lilies; a. fr. -- 2) shoot, twig, stem with pods, bunch. Tosef. Kil. I, 10. Ckts. I, 5 שריקנו תמרה של ש׳ a twig of a date tree which was stripped of its dates. Ib. בקטניות ובן שריקנו ש׳ and so in the case of summer fruits, if they emptied the pods on a stem.
