שר m. (b. h.; שרר) prince, chief; (מעלה של) שר guardian angel, genius. Zeb. 116b ונגיד שר a prince or a. nobleman. Yeb. 16b העולם שר the genius of the universe; Hull. 60a. Ex. R. s. 22 וכ׳ שלהם שר הקב'ה נטל the Lord took first their (the Egyptians') uardian angel and drown- ed him. Pes. 118a הברד שר, v. יורקמי. Ib. אש של שר אני I (Gabriel) am the angel of fre. B. Batb. 74b ים של שר the angel of the sea. Mekh. B'shall., Shir., s. 2 שראו כיון נופל מלכות של שרה (not נופלת) when they saw the genius of the (Egyptian) empire fallen; Yalk. שרב (Shaf. of חרב) to glow, be dry. Hithpa. השתרב to be overcome by the heat. Sifra K'dosh. ch. III, Par. 2 (ref. to Lev. XIX, 14) שישתרב . . . תאמר אל do not advise him . וgo on the road at noon- time', that he may be overcome by the heat; Yalk. Lev. 609.
שרב, שריב ch. same, to glow, burn, be dry. Targ. Y. 1Ex. III, 3. -- Part. שריב; . שריבתא, שרב׳; l. שריבין; שריבן. Targ. Prov. XVII, 1 (h. text חרבה). --Gen. שרבב (Shaf. of רבב) to enlarge, prolong. Ber. 54b (ref. to Ps. III, 8) שרבבת אלא שברת את read not shibbarta (thou breakest) but shirbabhta thou prolongest (the teeth of the wicked, referring to Og whose teeth grew into the mountain which he was carrying); Ex. R. s. 1a; Yalk. Ps. 625; Meg. 15b שריבבת; Sot. 12b שריבבתה (read ירכב׳). Hithpa. השתרבב, lithpa. נשתרבב to be enlarged. Bekh. 40a (expl. שרוע, Lev. XXI, 18) יריכו לו שנ׳ (Rashi ששנשתרבבה יריכו) a person whose one hip is enlarged (larger than the other). Sot. 35a וכ׳ לשונם נ׳ their tongues were prolonged so as to reach down to their navel; Yalk. שרבב I ch. same, to prolong, let hang down; to let down. Targ. Jer. XXXVIII, 6; 11. -- Sabb. 147b מעבריתו כי וכ׳ להו שרביבו . . . when you have to carry garments for the soldiers (on the Sabbath), let them hang down over your shoulders (so as to serve as garmments for yourselves). Erub. 102b טפח בגלימיה שרביב (not בגלימי; ed. Sonc. בגלימיה אישתרבב, read; גלימיה א׳; v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 200) if a person lets his cloak trail one handbreadth. thpa. אשתרבב 1) to be enlarged, prolonged. Sot. 12b [read; ]אישתרבובי אישתרבבא(her arm) was prolonged bby a. miracle, so that she could reach the infant Moses); Ex.
