שתוקיm. (v. שתוק) one belonging to the class of שתוק, esp. an illegitimate child of unknoawn fatherhood. Kidd. IV, 1. Ib. 2 וכ׳ מכיר שהוא כל ש׳ a sh'thuki is he who knows his mother, but does not know who his father is, contrad. to אסופי. Yeb. 100b ש׳ הוולד . . עשרה if ten priests stood together, and one (unknown which) separat- ed and had intercourse, the child is a sh'thuki (admitted neither to inheritance nor to priesthood); Keth. 13b; a. e. -- em. תוקית Kidd. 73a לא ש׳ שתוקי מעתה אלא ישא if this be so, let a sh'thuki not be permitted to marry a woman whose father is unknown. Ib. ש׳ בת the daughter of a sh'thukith (who mmarried a shh'thuki, a. mameer, etc.). Esth. R. to II, 7 (not ששתוקת); a. e.

שתות(radit. pronunc. שתות) f. (denom. of Chald. שת) one-sixth. B. Mets. IV, 3 למקח ש׳ one-sixth of the value of a purchased object (v. אונאה). Ib. 49b מקח ש׳ אמר רב שנינו Rab says, the Mishnah means one-sixth of the value only; וכ׳ מעות ש׳ אמר ושמואל but Samuel says, the Mishnah means also one-sixth of the price paid (onesfifth of the value). Bath. 90a מש׳ יותר . . . מוססיפין אין you dare not decree tthe increase of a measure by more tthan one- sixth, nor of the weight of a coin &c.; יותר . המשתכר מש׳ he that makes profit (retailer) must not charge more than one-sixth profit; Men. 77a; B. שתי, שתה I (b. h.) [to be settled, satisfled,] to drink. Pes. 86b וכ׳ כוסו השותה he who drinks his cupful at one draught is called greedy (גרגרן). Ber. 51a ושותהו. . מקבלו בשמאל he must receive it (the medicine, v. אספרגוס) with his right hand, and drink it (take it to his lips) with his left hand. IbbV כפלים השותה he who drinks an even number of cups (v. זוג). Tosef. Sot. XV, 11; B. Bath. 60b יין לשתות ושלא . . . כשחרב when the Temmle was destroy- ed , . there were many scrupulous persons (פרושים, determined) not to eat meat nor drink wine. Ib. נשתה וכ׳ יין should we drink wine, of which libations were offered on the altar? Ib. וכ׳ נשתה לא מים then let us drink no water, because water libation has ceased. XIX (ref. to נסכתי, Ps. II, 6) השתיתיו Ihave woven him (established him, ref. to מסכת, Jud. XVI, 14); Yalk. Is. 338; Yalk. Ps. 62o השיתיו (corr. acc.). Hoff. הושתה to be established, started. Y.
