Published after its better-known sister work, the Baltimore Catechism, the Manual of Prayers for the Use of the Catholic Laity (republished in 1995 as the Baltimore Book of Prayers) of the Third Plenary Council of Baltimore was a comprehensive collection of traditional prayers and devotions in the English language for use by American Catholics. Various matters of spiritual practice given in the Book of Prayers have been superseded by the Second Vatican Council and other Church reforms since the 1950s.
