BRAMSTON, FRANCIS.
Judge.
d. 1683.

Admitted 16 September, 1634.

Third son of Sir John Bramston, Judge (q.v.). He was educated at Cambridge, where he graduated in 1637. Though called to the Bar 24 June, 1642, the civil troubles prevented his practising till the Restoration. He was elected a Bencher 30 Oct. 1663. In 1668 he was Reader at the Middle Temple, and in the following year became Serjeant-at-Law. In 1678 he was promoted to the Bench as a Baron of the Exchequer, but within a year, for no expressed cause, he, with three other judges, was summarily dismissed. Mr. Evelyn, who was present at his Reader's least, describes it as "so very extravagant and greate as the like had not been seene at any time. There were present the Duke of Ormond (q.v.). Privy Seal, Bedford, Belasys, Halifax, and a world more of Earles and Lords" (Diary, 3 Aug. 1668). He died in his chambers at Serjeant's Inn, 27 March, 1683.
