Oglethorpe, James (Edward), y.s. Theoph., of St. James, London, eq. aur. Corpus Christi Coll., matric. 8 July, 1714, aged 16; created M.A. 31 July, 1731; of Cranham Hall, Essex, a general in the army 1765, founder and governor of the colony or settlement in Georgia 1732, deputy governor of the African company 1734, served with the duke of Cumberland against the rising of 1745, M.P.
