Sir George, Bart., created D.C.L. 5 July, 1848; lieut.-general in the army, colonel 50th regiment, 1853, governor of Honduras, 1815-23, of Van Dieman's Land, 1823-35, K.C.H., governor of Upper Canada, 1837-41, and of Bombay, 1841-6, provisional governor of India in 1846, knighted 19 July, 1837, created a baronet 5 June, 1841, P.C. 1847.
