Bliss, Rev. Philip, s. Philip, of Chipping Sodbury, co. Gloucester, cler. St. John's Coll., matric. 30 June, 1806, aged 18; scholar 1806, fellow 1809, B.C.L. 1815, D.C.L. 1820, Bodley's sub-librarian 1822-8 ('hypobiblothecarius Bodleianus,' privilegiatus 27 July, 1822), registrar of the University 1824-53, keeper of the Archives 1826-57, registrar of the University Court 1831, principal of St. Mary Hall 1848, until his death 18 Nov., 1857, edited the Oxford University Calendar, and superintended the publication of the Catalogue of Oxford Graduates 1659-1850, editor of the Athenæ Oxonienses et Fasti.
