Compton, Spencer, k.g., Earl of Wilmington, created D.C.L. 5 Aug., 1730, speaker of the House of Commons 1715-27, created Baron 1727, and Earl of Wilmington 1730, lord president of the Council 1730-42, and first lord of the Treasury 1742 (son of James, 3rd Earl of Northampton), died unmarried 2 July, 1743.
