Gardiner, (Sir) James Whalley-Smythe- (Bart.), s. Robert Whalley, of Oxford (city), doctor. Magdalen Coll., matric. 28 July, 1764, aged 15; B.A. 1768, M.A. 1771, 2nd baronet, of Clerk Hall, Lancashire, sheriff 1783, entered the Middle Temple 1768, assumed the additional surnames of Smyth-Gardiner after the death of his brother 1797, died 21 Aug., 1805.
