Christ Church, matric. 4 June, 1835, aged 18; B.A. 1838, M.A. 1845, created D.C.L. 21 June, 1865, 2nd Baron Lyons, P.C., G.C.B. 1862, G.C.M.G. 1878, ambassador at Paris 1867-87, created Viscount Lyons 17 Nov., 1877, and was offered an earldom in 1887, but died 5 Dec., 1887, before the patent was executed.
