Christ Church, matric. 28 May, 1744, aged 17; B.A. 1748, created D.C.L. 3 July, 1793, 2nd Earl of Mansfield, envoy extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Court of Poland 1755, ambassador to Vienna 1763, and to Paris 1768, justice-general of Scotland 1778-95, secretary of State 1779, lord president of the Privy Council 1783 and 1794, a representative peer 1754-96, chancellor Marischal College, Aberdeen, 1793, died 1 Sep., 1796, buried in Westminster Abbey, his heart was carried to his seat at Kumlington, co.
