Tralee 1829-31, Northampton 1831-59, a lord of the Treasury 1830-4, secretary to the Board of Control 1835-9, under-secretary of State for the Colonies 1839-41, secretary for War 1854, president India Board 1855-8, assumed the name of Vernon in lieu of Smith by royal licence 5 Aug., 1845, died 10 Nov. 1873.
