Flause, feminine, ‘trick, pretence,’ simply ModHG; Middle High German *vlûse does not occur; it is probably connected with Old High German giflôs, neuter ‘whispering,’ giflôsida, feminine, ‘illusion,’ flôsâri, ‘liar.’
