Saat, f., ‘sowing, seed, crop,’ from the equiv. MidHG. and OHG. sât, f.; corresponding to OSax. sâd, n., Du. zaad, AS. sœ̂d, m. and n., E. seed, OIc. sœ̂ðe, and sáð, n., ‘seed,’ Goth. only in mana-sêþs (þ equiv. to d), f., ‘mankind, world.’ OTeut. sê-di and sê-da- are abstract forms from the primit. root sê, ‘to sow,’ contained in Seu and Same.
