James Wilkinson
(1757–1825)

United States military officer who served in the Revolutionary War, the Northwest Indian War and the War of 1812. He was twice senior officer in the U.S. Army, from December 15, 1796 to July 13, 1798, and from June 15, 1800 to January 27, 1812. Involved in numerous controversies, Wilkinson was implicated in the alleged conspiracy by Aaron Burr to detach the western territories from the United States and set up an independent government
