(on the 26th November 1874 an English translation by P.L. Sclater had already appeared in Nature (external scan). This translation was criticized by Prof. Boyd Dawkins (Nature, 10th December, 1874) (external scan) and Sir Victor Brooke (Nature, 14th Jan. 1875) (external scan). The article of Dawkins was also reprinted in The Zoologist:- "On the Northern Range of the Fallow Deer in Europe". The Zoologist. 3rd series, vol 1 (issue 3, March): 89–94. 1877.
