I can find no "Vollams" in New Zealand in 1800s or 1900s. — billinghurst sDrewth 08:32, 1 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

In the following article the name given is "E Vollams" but articles or references to the surname "Vollams" are proving very elusive

W C Roberts was possibly William Charles Roberts, Bank Manager at the Hokitika Branch of the Bank of New Zealand in 1874. From there he went on to be the Bank Manager at the Dunedin BNZ.
G G Fitzgerald was possibly Gerard George Fitzgerald BDM 1904/5684 Member of Parliament for Hokitika 1881 -1884

This article gives the name as G E Vollams: https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/DSC18721224.2.15.

Could it be George Vollans, who worked at the bank in Hokitika? George's obituary confirms that he worked at the bank in Hokitika, so he would have known W C Roberts, and he had a lot of books-->was interested in many things. https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/TS19200703.2.18

George Vollans' signature on his will is spelled GeoVollans, which has possibly been interpreted at some stage as G E Vollans? https://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE67300645
