The Committee of the Cobden Club held a semi-private dinner in London last night, when a Cobden medal was presented to Mr. Gordon Thompson, student of Victoria University, Manchester, for a prize essay on the canal system of England. A discussion followed on the importance of canals to the development of the commerce of the country.
