I deleted the pre-Christian since, as recent scholarship has emphasized, there is actually no evidence he was pre-Christian, though certainly interested in the pre-Christian literature of classical antiquity (etc.) (2604:2000:1382:C19F:854E:567:7F2F:4066 17:26, 5 February 2019 (UTC))
