A mention of her in a Nebraska paper (along with Ella Sabin): https://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn99066033/1900-11-24/ed-1/seq-3/#date1=1898&index=0&rows=20 -Pete (talk) 23:23, 9 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

Help? edit

Hi @Billinghurst: do you think you could help me find out a little more about Mary Young? It's such a common name, and I'm having trouble finding her in the usual places. There are many newspaper articles referencing her efforts with the Red Cross and the Oregon Emergency Corps, as well as in the Chautauqua movement. But none of them seem to offer any personally identifying info. Even finding her first name was pretty challenging. Her husband is interred at Wilhelm's mausoleum. Beyond that, I'm at a dead end, hoping your research skills might save the day. -Pete (talk) 18:04, 15 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@Peteforsyth: What do we know about Levi Young? Can you even approximate his years? or something about him? — billinghurst sDrewth 00:04, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oh, it is on the front.
The Mary Young living in Nebraska does not seem to be the same person as the Mary Young writing in Oregon. I can tie the Nebraska person through a space of time In Nebraska.
Scant clear information. I would suggest that tracking Levi may be of value to see what is overt for him and mentions of Mary. It would seem that he went west from Maine, and met Mary along the way. I would suggest that the University of Idaho archives would be a place to look, as a woman dean in 1899 at their new(ish) establishment would ost likely have some employee records. — billinghurst sDrewth 01:37, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Many thanks for the data and the suggestions. U. Idaho is a good idea. I had tried looking for Levi, but found little beyond the find-a-grave and a couple brief obits. The Nebraska paper I found was actually talking about "Mrs. Levi Young of Oregon," so I'm pretty sure it's the same person, not somebody living in Nebraska...but, not much info there beyond the fact that she was recognized outside the Northwest. Anyway, thanks for all this, and I'll see if I can find a good way to access unversity info. -Pete (talk) 05:23, 16 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
