Nothing particular found in England, though with a name like that, quite possibly Irish. For Pierce Laurence Nolan, there is

• Pierce Nolan, dying in 1894, aged 74, Staines RD, Middlesex, so b.c1820. Not found in census at about that time.

a Pierce Laurence Nolan, an Irish barrister, wrote on 'Irishmen in the French Revolution' for the Dublin Review in 1890; the Wellesley Index suggests he's covered in the 1917 Catholic Who's Who. He seems to have lived at 6 Stephen's Green, Dublin.Dsp13 (talk) 23:00, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

This latter individual is likely correct. I've skimmed through the Dublin Review article, and it is strongly biographical in nature. Has anyone identified any of Nolan's DNB articles? Eclecticology - the offended (talk) 18:41, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Both are Irish. Kenney was too young for the French Revolution, but his later association with a plot to liberate Pius VII from the French seems consistent with the style of the Dublin Review article. Eclecticology - the offended (talk) 21:31, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

"Mr. Nolan was the eldest surviving son of the late Mr. Edward R. Nolan, J. P. He was, called to the Bar in 1892, and joined the Leinster Circuit. He enjoyed a good practice in the Chancery Division, and was looked upon as a sound lawyer. During Sir Samuel Walker's tenure of office as Lord Chancellor, Mr. Nolan acted as his secretary, and when the position of Registrar in Chancery became vacant by the promotion of the late Mr. Edward Ennis, Mr. Nolan received the vacant office [...]"

It may be assumed then that the Catholic Encylopedia Author:Patrick Nolan was his brother: see

Well, the Nolans of Killeen House, co. Dublin, include Pierce, Patrick=William, Richard S. of the Inner Temple (next entry in The Catholic encyclopedia and its makers), and apparently Thomas V. who was a Jesuit.
