Charles A. Webber was born in Brooklyn 35 years ago. His father was a German, Charles F. Webber, of Company A of the fighting Fourteenth of Brooklyn, and was killed at Gettysburg. His mother was an Irish woman. He has spent his whole life in the Sixth ward, where he is widely known, being the founder and attorney for the Atlantic Building and Loan Association, the first started in that ward, and for eight years president of St. Peter's Catholic Library association. He has a national reputation in the work for Catholic young men. Mr. Webber is a member of the Catholic Benevolent Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Columbian Club and many other organizations. In politics he has always been an independent Democrat. By profession he is a lawyer, a graduate of Columbia college, and practices in this city. This is the first time he has ever run for office.
