Yacht Captain Tried Suicide. John H. Kinner of the Yacht Monticeto Cut His Throat This Morning. Special to the Eagle. Port Jefferson, Long Island, March 16, 1903. An attempt at suicide was made this morning by Captain John H. Kinner, a well known yacht captain and a native of the village. He has been a sufferer from grippe for some time and was undoubtedly despondent because of lacrk of employment during the past winter and the uncertainty of securing a position. He has been in command of the yacht Monticeto for several summers, and it was presumed he would again have the berth this summer. Captain Kinner arose at 7 o'clock, and after kissing his wife went to the kitchen and drew a razor across his throat. The jugular vein was not severed, so the doctor gives a possible chance of recovery. He is conscious, but says he has no desire to live. Captain Kinner is 67 years of age, is a Mason and a member of the Royal Arcanum.
