KEARNEY, a city and county-seat of Buffalo co., Neb.; on a canal extending from the Platte river, which furnishes power for manufacturing, and on the Union Pacific and Burlington Route railroads; 198 miles S. W. of Omaha. It is the farming, stock-raising, and manufacturing trade center for the surrounding country; has a large cotton mill, electric flour mill, and machine shops; and is the seat of the Western State Normal School and the State Industrial School for Boys. Pop. (1910) 6,202; (1920) 7,702.
