ANDERSON, SIR GEORGE WILLIAM (1791–1857)

I.C.S. : entered the Bombay Civil Service in 1806 : drew up the "Bombay Code of 1827" : was a Judge of the Sadr Court, and, in 1835, was appointed to the Indian Law Commission : in 1838 he became Member of Council, Bombay : from April, 1841, to June, 1842, acted as Governor of Bombay, between Sir J. Rivett-Carnac and Sir G. Arthur : retired in 1844 : in 1849 was knighted and appointed Governor of the Mauritius, but after 16 months was transferred to Ceylon as Governor, and made K.C.B. : resigned in 1855 : died March 12, 1857.
