COURT, CLAUDE AUGUSTE (1793– ? )

General : born Sep. 26, 1793 educated at the Ecole Poly technique, Paris, 1812–3 : entered the French Army, 1813 : saw active service, 1813–5 : left the Army, 1818 : served in Persia, and joined Ranjit Singh's forces, with Avitabile (q.v.) in 1827 : improved Ranjit's Sikh Artillery greatly : paid much attention to archaeology and coins : after Ranjit's death, the Sikh troops attacked Court, who was protected by Ventura (q.v.) : retired from Lahore to France.
