COX, CHARLES VYVYAN (1819–)

Maj-General : son of the Rev. John Cox, Rector of Cheddington and Vicar of Stockland : born Sep. 24, 1819 : educated at King's School, Sherborne, and Military Academy, Addiscombe : entered the Bengal Artillery, 1838 : served in the Gwalior campaign, 1843–4 : Satlaj campaign, 1845–6 : present at the battles of Mudki, Firozshahr and Sobraon : Panjab campaign, 1848–9 : present at battles of the Chenab, Chilianwala and Gujarat : throughout the Indian mutiny, 1857 : retired in 1872 : C.B. in 1871.
