CROMER, EVELYN BARING, FIRST EARL (1841–)

Son of Henry Baring, M.P. : born Feb. 26, 1841 : educated at Ordnance School, Carshalton, and R.M.A., Woolwich : entered the Royal Artillery, 1858 : Major in 1876 : Private Secretary to Lord Northbrook, Viceroy of India, 1872–6 : Financial Member of the Supreme Council of the Governor-General, 1880–3 : has since been employed in Egypt, and is now Minister Plenipotentiary in the Diplomatic Service : Agent and Consul General in Egypt since 1883 P.C. : G.C.B. : G.C.M.G. : K.C.S.I. C.I.E. : Baron, 1892 : Viscount, 1898 Earl, 1901.
