Formatting edit

Formatting here is mostly standard wiki, but here are a few things to watch for.

HEADERS

The template {{running header}} or {{rh}} will automatically generate a proposed header for each page when it's first created, with the book page number both on the left and right, and the header title in italics.

  1. Check the page number.
  2. Check whether it's on the left or right, and delete the right or left page number, per the page scan.
  3. Check the page header text. Alternate pages use alternate header text.
  4. Add '''{{rule}}''' under the page header to generate a line.

VERNACULAR

This book was written in American regional vernacular in 1884 or so. Do NOT change the vernacular or spelling.

Illustrations edit

Use {{Img float}} to insert drawings into each page, where needed. As of now, some illustrations are available at WikiMedia Commons. Here's a typical illustration within a page: Page 64. As of now, most first Chapter pages will not format correctly with the available images. I'm working on trying to solve that problem.

Thank you for your help with this book! Outlier59 (talk) 00:35, 9 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Use {{flow under}} for chapter page illustrations. It takes a few previews to line everything up right; it's worth the time. The span text below the illustration section is the caption for the illustration. [I did NOT figure this out myself -- got lots of good advice!] - Outlier59 (talk) 00:28, 14 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Version currently in namespace edit

The version of this book currently in namespace is The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" currently redirects to that version, which differs a great deal from this version. - Outlier59 (talk) 17:07, 18 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

I changed book title to include year so that it doesn't link to the current version in mainspace. Outlier59 (talk) 12:29, 26 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Smart Quotes edit

Should the text be corrected to use “Smart Quotes” as in the scanned image or retain straight quotes as in the text? See, for example: Page:Adventures_of_Huckleberry_Finn.djvu/25 Thanks! --Lbeaumont (talk) 15:31, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wikisource:Style guide says "Use typewriter quotation marks (straight, not curly)". Outlier59 (talk) 21:51, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
