Annex
Statement issued on 2 August 1990 by the Chief Cabinet Minister of Japan on the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait
The Government of Japan deeply regrets that, at dawn on 2 August local time, Iraqi forces invaded Kuwait territory.
The Government of Japan, watching the development of the situation with great concern, demands the immediate withdrawal of Iraqi forces. It strongly hopes that the issues between Iraq and Kuwait will be settled peacefully, through dialogue and without the use of armed forces.
