Brett, Rt. Hon. Sir William Baliol (Knt.), P.C., master of the rolls since 1883, solicitor-general in 1868, M.P. Helston 1866-8, a justice of the common pleas 1868-75 and of the Common Pleas Division of the High Court of Justice 1875-6, lord justice of appeal 1876-83, M.A., Caius Coll., Camb., 1845, a student of Lincoln's Inn 30 April, 1839, called to the bar 29 Jan., 1846. serjeant-at-law 2 Nov., 1868 (2nd son of Rev. Joseph George Brett, of Ranelagh, Chelsea, clerk); born 13 Aug., 1817; married 3 April, 1850, Eugénie, dau. of Louis Mayer, Esq., and has issue (see Foster's Baronetage).
