Johnston, (Hon.) Alexander James, puisne judge of supreme court of New Zealand, Canterbury district, since 1876, late of Wellington district, author of New Zealand Justice of the Peace, etc., etc.. Treatise on Powers, etc., and Magistrates, etc., in the Colony of New Zealand, a student of Lincoln's Inn 12 Nov., 1838 (then aged 18), went to the Middle Temple 21 Dec., 1842, where he was called to the bar 27 Jan., 1843 (eldest son of James S. Johnston, Esq., of Wood Hill, Kinnellar, co. Aberdeen); born , 1820.
