Ley, James Peard, M.A., Queen's Coll., Camb., 1836, commanded a troop of North Devon Mounted Rifles 1831-51, a student of the Middle Temple 21 April, 1842, called to the bar 2 May, 1845 (eldest son of James Smith Ley, Esq., of Durrant House, Bideford, Devon); born 5 July, 1807; married 1 Aug., 1844, Louisa Susanna, dau. of Charles Augustus Tulk, Esq., of Totteridge Park, Herts., M.P. Poole, etc.; she died 25 Nov., 1847, leaving issue; he married 2ndly, 14 April, 1856, Caroline Augusta, widow of John Gordon, Esq.; she died 17 Sept., 1881, leaving issue.
