Mathews, John Hubbersty, author of Presumption and Presumptive Evidence, The Law of Portions, a student of Lincoln's Inn 26 April, 1819 (then aged 22), called to the bar 28 May, 1824, admitted a barrister of the Middle Temple ad eundem 9 Jan., 1836 (2nd son of John Mathews, Esq., of North Shields); born 11 Nov., 1796; married 1st, 29 April, 1841, Jane Mellor, dau. of Aaron Chapman, of Whitby, M.P.; she died 26 June, 1848, leaving issue; he married 2ndly, 20 May, 1858, Marianne, dau. of Rev. Thomas Godfrey, vicar of Melton Mowbray.
