Oliphant-Ferguson, George Henry Hewitt, B.A., Trin. Coll., Camb., 1842, a member of the Northern circuit, J.P., D.L. Cumberland, author of Oliphant's Law of Horses, etc., of Law of Pens and Prohibitions, of Law of Church Ornaments and Utensils, etc., assumed the additional surname of Ferguson in 1861, a student of the Inner Temple 20 April, 1837 (then aged 19), called to the bar 19 Nov., 1843 (only son of George Henry Hewitt Oliphant, Esq., of Burgh-by-Sands, Cumberland); born 6 June, 1817; married 1 Oct., 1867, Cecilia, 4th dau. of late John Labouchere, Esq., of Broome Hall, Surrey, and has issue.
