Raikes, Francis William, LL.D., St. Peter's Coll., Camb., 1882, M.A. 1874, Law Times admiralty reporter in court of appeal, election commissioner at Gloucester 1880-1, formerly a navigating officer in H.M. navy, joint author of The New Practice under the Judicature Acts and author of The Conflict of Laws in Cases of Collisions at Sea, etc., a member of the Northern and of the North-eastern circuits, a student of the Inner Temple 20 Nov., 1869 (then aged 27), called to the bar 18 Nov., 1872 (2nd son of late Henry Raikes, Esq., of Llwynegrin. Flints, bar.-at-law, dec.); born 2 Feb., 1842; married 15 Aug., 1878, Diana Mary Howard, elder dau. of late H. H. Barber, Esq., 12th lancers (see Foster's Yorkshire Pedigrees).
