Shand, Sir Charles Farquhar, LL.D. Edinburgh Univ., chief justice of the Mauritius 1860-79 and judge of the vice-admiralty court, counsel for the lords of the treasury and commissioner of woods and forests Scotland 1857-60, late capt. Edinburgh volunteer rifles, knighted 1 April, 1869, author of The Practice of the Court of Session, a member of the Faculty of Advocates Scotland, a student of Lincoln's Inn 17 Aug., 1840 (then aged 28), called to the bar 10 May, 1876 (3rd son of Rev. James Shand, of Marykirk, co. Kincardine); born 14 June, 1812; married 21 March, 1850, his cousin, Margaret, dau. of late Col. Lee Harvey, of Castle Semple, co. Renfrew; she died 23 Sept., 1877, leaving issue (see Foster's Baronetage).
