Lincoln (parts of Lindsey), a revising barrister on Western circuit 1862-4, recorder of Poole 1861-4, professor of English law and jurisprudence at King's Coll., London, 1850-64, registrar of Leeds district bankruptcy court 1864-70, editor of several editions of Stephen's Commentaries on the Laws of England, an edition of Lush's Common Law Practice, and The Principles of Pleading, educated at Rugby and Caius Coll., Camb., a student of Lincoln's Inn 23 Jan., 1843, went to the Middle Temple 28 Nov., 1845, where he was called to the bar 30 Jan., 1846 (only son of Henry John Stephen, serjeant-at-law); born 16 Sept., 1820; married 3 Sept., 1850, Caroline Neville, dau. of late Henry Davies, Esq., M.D., of London; she died 1 Jan., 1878.
