Stradling-Carne, John Whitlock, D.C.L., Jesus Coll., Oxon, 1843, M.A. 1839, F.S.A., chairman Cowbridge bench of magistrates, etc., high sheriff Glamorganshire 1874, J.P., D.L., sometime commissioner in bankruptcy for that county, assumed the surname of Stradling-Carne in lieu of Nicholl-Carne in 1877, a student of the Inner Temple 8 Nov., 1837 (then aged 21), called to the bar 20 Nov., 1840 (2nd son of Rev. Robert Nicholl, of Dimlands House, Glamorgan); born 16 April, 1817; married 1st, 10 April, 1844, Mary Jane, only dau. of P. W. Brancker, Esq., of Wavertree, Lancashire; she died 2 Sept., 1874; he married 2ndly, 10 May, 1877, Mary Salusbury dau. of John L. Crump, Esq., of Hampton, co. Hereford, and has issue by both marriages.
