Yates, Joseph St. John, judge of county courts (circuit No. 9), being one of the first sixty, 1847-82, previously judge of small debts court of Glossop, Derbyshire, and a commissioner of bankrupts on the Manchester list, deputy steward of manor and forest of Macclesfield, J.P. Lancashire, Cheshire, and Derbyshire, undergrad. Christ Church, Oxon, from Charterhouse, a student of the Inner Temple 2 Feb., 1830 (then aged 21), called to the bar 1 May, 1835 (eldest son of Joseph Yates, Esq., late of Peel, co. Lanc., bar.-at-law, dec); born 16 Oct., 1808; married 30 March, 1842, Emily Augusta 4th dau. of late David Scott, Esq., of Brotherton, co. Kincardine.
