we notice that the tea houses and saki shops increase, until they almost line the way. Long rows of fancy colored lanterns hang in front, which are illuminated at night, giving the street a gay appearance. But this is a place of ill-repute and net entirely safe after dark. And now we pass through a heavily barred gate, and are within the city, although three miles of streets must yet be passed before we reach our stopping place for the night.
