דאב (b. h.; cmp. דוב, זוב) to melt, pine away, languish. -- Hif. הדאיב to melt, to cause to languish. B. Bath. 79a (play on מידבא, Num. XXI, 30) נשמתן שתדאיב עד (Var. תדיב, תדוב, v. Rabb. D. S. a. l. note 2) until it (the fire of Gehenna) shall melt, their soul. Ned. 22a (ref. to Deut. XXVIII, 65) וכ׳ ומדאיב . . . . שמכלה which ruins the eye- sight and makes life languid. Ch. דאיב.

דאג (b. h.) [to melt,] cmp. דאב a. יצף, to be low- spirited, to sorrow, fear. Snh. 106b (play on דאג, I Sam. XXI, 8, a. דויג, ib. XXII, 18) at first וכ׳ ודואג הקב״ה יושב the Lord sat in anxiety, that he (Doeg) might degenerate; after . . . ., He said זה שיצא ווי woe that he did &c. Ber. 40a וכ׳ מריח ידאג must be in fear of contracting &c. Succ. 29a. Hag. 13a בקרבו דואג שלבו whose heart within him is in fear of sin (reverential).
