Lam. R. introd. (R. Isaac 3) וכ׳ ט׳ קאים one stands idly
waiting a whole day and is not tired, but for prayer one is
tired; (Yalk. lIs. 318 וטרי קאי; Esth. R. to I, 9ומשתעי יתיב).

טרוף m. 1) (denom. of טרף) covered with leaves. Tosef. Neg. VIII, 2, v. טרף. -- 2) (part. pass. of טרף, cmp. Pi.) disfigured by irregular spots; (oth. opin.) chopped, fall of incisions; (oth. opin.) planed, smooth. Ned. 25a; Shebu. 29b (ref. to one swearing that he had seen a serpent like the beam of an oil press') בט׳ he meant 'spotted like a beam &c. Ib. (in answer to the argument טריפין מיטרף נחשי כולהו (or טריפי, not טרפי) that all serpents are 'spotted) ט׳ בשגבו (Ms. M. שבגבו) he meant a serpent spotted on the back (and not only around the neck). Ned. . c. ט׳ גבו . . . קורת (read גבה) the back of a press beam may be spotted (i. e. no objection of the purchaser is valid based on the spotted condition of the beam); according to the opinion; ט׳ =planed, all beams must be planed, (otherwise the purchaser has a right to reject). -- [Other meanings, v. טרף.]

Zar. 3a וכ׳ שכ׳ מי he who has made preparations on FPriday has food for the Sabbath (he who does good in this world can expect reward in the hereafter). Keth. 10a; Kidd. 45b וכ׳ טורח . . אין חזקה the presumption is that one will not go to the trouble of preparing a (wedding) feast and let it go to ruin, i. e. one must have weighty reasons for a divorce immediately after marriage; Yeb. 107a.
