Sir William Milne was educated at the High School, Glasgow, and emigrated to South Australia in 1839, where he was engaged in business till 1857. In this j'ear, he entered the South Australian Parliament, of which he remained a member for twenty-three years. For nearly six years after this time he was a member of the government, and was president of the Legis- lative Council for eight years, 1873-81. Sir William was knighted in 1876.
