By his wife, Janet, daughter and heiress of William Towers, of Barnlon, he had a son, Alexander Ogiltt, third baron of Inver- quharity, who d. yoimg, ejVeo 1454, and was ^. by his uncle, W.ALTEE Ogilvt, fourth baron of Inver- quharity, who d. I4S1, and was «. by his son, John Ogilvt, the fifth baron of Inverqu- harity, got a charier from King James III of the lands of Middleton, Haiidwicli, &c., to him and Vargaret Eat try, his wife, dated the 23rd Au. ust, 1187. There appear to have been disputes and family feuds " bet^vixt the twa houses of Innercarritee and Clova sen the battle of Arbroath" ,- but these were all at hist accom- modated by the interposition of friends, who were mutually chosen as arbitrators by both parties, and who having adjusted all their differences, the brothers entered into a mu- tual bond of friendship, whereby they bound themselves and their posterity to live in peace and amity with one another, dated 24th May, 1524. He m. — Norie, descended of an ancient family of that name in Dumbarton- shire, by whom he had a son, John Ogilvt, his apparent heir, who m. Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Alexander Guthrie (who was killed at the battle of Flodden, in 1513), by whom he had a son. Sir John Ogilvt, of Inverquharity, who s. his grandfather and m. Elizabetli, daughter of Thomas Fothekixghaji, of Powrie, by whom he had a son, John, his heir ; and a daughter Marian, m. to James Maule, of Melgum, son of Henry Maule, of Innerpeffer, son of Robert Maule, of Panmure. He sat in the Parliament of 1560, and was- s. by his SOD, Sir John Ogilvt, of Inverquharity, wTio m. 1559, Helen Ogilvt, sister of James, fifth Lord Ogilvy, of Airly, and by her had two sons, I. John, his heir. II. James, whose son JoHlf carried on the line ot this family ; of whom after- wairds. I. Janet, m. Donald, progenitor of the Faequharsons ofFimean, by whom she had seven sons, all founders of respect.ible families. II. Catherine, m. to David SiBBAlD, of Letham. Sir John was s. by his eldest son. Sir John Ogilvt, of Inverquharity, who, in 1580, m. Elizabeth Ogilvie, by whom he had no children. He d. and was s. by (the son of his brother James) his nephew. Sir John Ogilvt, knighted by King James TI the 2Sth June, I6O0. He m. his cousin, Matilda, daught er of Thomas Fother- INGHAM, of Powrie, in 1586, by whom he had a son, John, his heir, and four daughters. He d. in the end of the reign of King James VI and was s. by his son. Sir .John Ogilvt, of Inverquharity, who WS9 created a baronet of Nova Scotia, with remainder to his heirs male generally 26th September, 1626. Sir John m. 1622, Anne, dnugliter of Sir .Alexander Irvine, of Drum, by the Lady Marion Douglas, his wife, and had issue, 1. Alexander, who, at an early age, joined the armies of Montrose, and fought in the tattle of Brechin, Kilsyth, and Philiphangh. He was taken prisoner at Philipliaugh and executed with Sir Philip Nisbet, 23rd October, 1646.
