George William Wright, Captain Bengal Engineers, h. at Futtyghur, India, 23rd Novcndjer, 1825, was the gallant olllccr who so distinguished himself at the siege of Lueknow, and was killed by a cannon shot, while insjiecting one of the batteries, 14th September, 1857. He has been called the " Defender of Lueknow " {see Gubbins' Hishiri/ of Mittinie.i in Oiide and all the histories of the Indian Mutiny). He m. Isabella Sophia, eldest daughter of Major Robert Wrougiiton, of the Bengal Survey Dejiartment (grandson of Sir Philip Wkouoimon), ami by her, who d. 1879, had issue, 1. James (Hon.), of Ravenseliffe, West Taieri, New Zealand, M.L.C., 4. at Futtyghur, India, 27th June, 1830; emigrated to New Zealand in the sliip " Ajax " in 1848. Mr. James Fulton was sometime coroner and registrar for the Taieri ; returning officer for that eleetorial district, chairman of the County Council, justice of the peace, resident magistrjite for Dune- din, Port Chalmers, and the Taieri, was returned as member of the House of Representatives for that place in 1879, as a strong supporter of the Atkinson Government ; he was also a member of the Otago University Council ; the Otago Education Board ; the Otago Bible Society, and was a life governor of the Otago Boys' and Girls' Schools. In 1888, he was chairman of the " Sweating Commis- sion " appointed to enipiire into the working of the various factories in tins colony. The Hon. James Fnlt<m, who was au earnest supporter of the
