He m. in 1799, Elizabeth Hamilton Anderson, and (/.at Edin- burgh, 1823, having by her, who d. 1S37, had issue, two sous, I. John, who s. by will to the gi-eater part of liis father's pro]5erty, and d. s. p. at New York in 1831. II. Alexandek Hamilton, of whom presently. His younger son, Alexandek Hamilton Watt, of Grange Road, Edinburgh, b. 14th July, 1800; m. Margaret, daughter of William Gilchrist, and sister of John Gilchrist, of Sydney, New South Wales (see p. 567), and by her, who d. 1832, had issue to survive childhood, an only son, I. John Brown, the subject of this memoir. He m. secondly, 1835, Mary Gumming, by whom he had issue, II. Charles, of Edinburgh, m. Margaret DoDDS, and has issue. Iir. Peter, J.
