His eldest son, Edmond Prendergast, of Ardfinan Castle, b. 26th April, 1810; w. at Ardfinan, 27th October, 1831, Elizabeth, widow of Vere Hunt, of Cappawhite, daughter of Ricliard Vowel, and grand - daughter of Jefi'rcy Prendergast, of Croane ; and by her (who was buried at Mullough Abbey, near Newcastle, co. Tipperary) had issue, I. Robert Henry, the subject of this memoir. I, Susan, b. at Castleview, near Ardfinan, m. Colonel George Ramsay Alured Denne, late of the 4th Dragoon Guards, and d. leaving issue, one sou. II. E )WARD WILLIAM HAWKER, of Adelaide, South Austialia, b. 14th January, 1850, was educated at Harrow and Trinit}' College, Caiiibi-idge, B.A. 1871, LL.B. 1873, M.L. and M.A. 1890, called to the bar at the Inner Temple, 1874, elected to the House of Assembly of South Australia 1884 and 1887, resigned his seat in 1889, and was re-elected 1893, is a F.S.S., and in 1892 was elected a member of the Institute of Mining Engineers. He m. at St. Mary Abbots, Kensington, London, 14th May, 1890, Mary Letitia, second daughter of the late Sir William Foster Stawell,* K.C.M.G., of D'Estaville, Melbourne, Austi-alia, and has issue, George Stanley, I. 7th l^Iay, 1894. Frances Melian, h. 12th February, 1891.
- Sir W. F. Stawell was 4. in the county of Cork, 27th June, 1815, and having been
called to the Irish Bar, 1839, emigrated to Victoria in 1843. He was appointed Attorney- General of the colony, 1851, and was returned to the Legislative Assembly for the district of Melbourne 1856. From 1857 to August, 1886, he held the office of chief justice, and the following year was appointed lieutenant-governor. Sir William m. Mary Frauces Elizabeth, daughter of Willam Pomeroy Greene, of Collen House, Collen, co. Louth, Ireland, and afterwards of Woodlands, Victoria (see Greene of Orei/stuiies, p. 41), and d. at Naples, 12th Blarcli, 1889. Sir W. F. Stawell was the second son of Jonas Stawell, of Old Court, by Anua, his wife, second daughter of the Right Rev. William Foster, D.D., Bishop of Cloglier, Ireland (see FOSTER, uf T/iunilei/, p. 55).
