York ; entered the Royal Naval College, 3rd April, 1812 ; and embarked, llfh April, 1815, as midshipman, on board the " Impregnable," became Flag-Lieutenant, in the " Queen Cliarlotte," to Admiral Sir James Hawkins Wliitshed, commander-in-chief at Portsmouth, 17tU March, 1821, and on 17th April, 1827, assumed command of the " Mos- quito," and was present, 20lh October, follow- ing, at the battle of Navarino. As a result of his conduct on that occasion he was ad- vanced to post-rank, 19th April, 1828. He m. 15th December, 1835, Isabella Harriet, daughter of Rear- Admiral Sir Thomas Brigos, G.C.M.O. (who d. 1832, whilst comnmndcr-in- chief at Portsmouth), by Harriet, his wife, daughter of Generid Thai'and, K.C.B., and d. at Colston Basset, 14th October, 1854, having had by her (who d. 1882) three eons and eight daughters, viz., I.
